How to Use Chrome Remote Desktop on Mac

Chrome Remote Desktop is a great way to take control of someone elses computer from your own device, and it’s just as easy to do as a Macbook user as it is on Windows laptops. Here’s how you can use Chrome Remote Desktop.

Using Chrome Remote Desktop on Macbook

To begin using Chrome Remote Desktop on your MacBook, first ensure that you have Google Chrome installed. If not, download and install it from the Google Chrome website.

Once Chrome is set up, open it and navigate to the Chrome Remote Desktop website. You’ll have the option to download the Chrome Remote app to your device – download the app, and then run the process from within Finder or the Downloads tab.

You’ll likely then be prompted to give CRD permissions to run on your computer, which means you need to open Accessibility.

Within Accessibility, you can toggle on and off access to controlyour computer for different apps. Make sure that it’s on for Chrome Remote Desktop.

Now, head back to the website to download the Chrome extension to make things even easier. You’ll find the option to download the Chrome Remote Desktop extension under the Remote Support tab.

Click “Add to Chrome” to install the extension, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Setting Up Your MacBook for Remote Access

After installing the Chrome Remote Desktop extension, you need to set up your MacBook for remote access.

Open the extension and use the Turn on Button. You’ll then be prompted to create a name for your device.

So, assign a name to your computer and then create a PIN with at least six digits for security purposes. This PIN will be required every time you want to access this device remotely.

To access your MacBook from another device, open Chrome and the Chrome Remote Desktop extension on that device. You’ll see a list of available computers.

Select the MacBook you set up earlier, and enter the PIN you created. Once the PIN is verified, you’ll have remote access to your MacBook from any location.

Using Chrome Remote Desktop for Screen Sharing

Chrome Remote Desktop also offers a screen sharing feature. To use this, choose “Share My Screen” in the Chrome Remote Desktop interface. You’ll be given an access code.

You can then share this code with the person you want to share your screen with. They will enter this code in their Chrome Remote Desktop extension to view your screen.

This is my preferred way to use Google Chrome Desktop, as it’s straightforward and just requires others to enter in the pincode.

As you can see from the guide above, it’s actually pretty easy to use Chrome Remote Desktop once you have it set up. And once it is, you’ll be able to share your screen with whoever you like.
