How to Play Spotify Songs on HomePod

Apple’s HomePod and HomePod mini are popular for their integration with Apple devices, and whilst Apple Music is the default music service on HomePod, many of us still prefer to use Spotify. Here’s how you can play Spotify from your HomePod.

Playing Spotify from your Apple HomePod

Step 1: Set up your HomePod

If you haven’t already set up your HomePod, follow these steps:

1. Plug in your HomePod and wait for the white light to appear on top.
2. Hold your iPhone or iPad near the HomePod, and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the device.
3. Make sure your iPhone or iPad is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your HomePod.

Step 2: Enable AirPlay in the Spotify app

The next thing you need to do is enable AirPlay on your device, which is what we use to connect to the HomePod. If it’s not enabled, you can’t play Spotify.

1. Open the Spotify app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
2. Go to the “Settings” menu in the app.
3. Scroll down and tap on “Devices”.
4. Toggle on the “Show local devices only” option.
5. Make sure the “Devices lock screen” option is enabled to control playback from your device’s lock screen.

Step 3: Connect Spotify to your HomePod

Once you’ve enabled AirPlay, you can then go ahead and connect Spotify to your HomePod from within the app.

1. Play a song, album, or playlist in the Spotify app on your device.
2. Tap the “Devices Available” button at the bottom of the screen (it looks like a speaker icon).
3. Select your HomePod from the list of available devices.
4. The music will start playing on your HomePod.

Step 4: Handoff playback from your iPhone

If you’re playing Spotify on your iPhone and want to transfer playback to your HomePod:

1. Make sure your iPhone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your HomePod.
2. Bring your iPhone close to the HomePod.
3. A notification will appear on your iPhone’s screen, asking if you want to transfer playback to the HomePod.
4. Tap “Transfer” to switch playback to your HomePod.

You can also consider using Siri to play music on your HomePod too, as this can be done with just a few words.

With these steps, you can enjoy your favorite Spotify tracks, albums, and playlists on your HomePod or HomePod mini.
