The world of Minecraft music discs offers a fascinating collection of rare in-game items that add an extra layer of atmosphere to your blocky adventures. Let me break down everything you need to know about these musical treasures.
Total Number of Music Discs
There are currently 13 music discs (also called “records”) available in Minecraft. Each disc contains a unique track composed by C418 or Lena Raine, and they’ve become beloved collectibles among players since their introduction.
How to Get Music Discs
The most common way to obtain music discs is through what I like to call the “Creeper DJ method” – having a Creeper’s explosion kill a Skeleton. It sounds bizarre, but it’s actually quite strategic! You’ll need to carefully position yourself so the Skeleton shoots the Creeper, then finish off the Creeper while it’s near the Skeleton. When done correctly, the Creeper will drop a random music disc.

Here’s the complete list of obtainable music discs:

Special Notes About Certain Discs
Something interesting I’ve noticed while playing is that some discs are actually rarer than others. The Pigstep disc, for example, can only be found in Bastion Remnants in the Nether – you won’t get this one from the usual Creeper/Skeleton technique. It’s become something of a trophy item among collectors.
Playing Your Music Discs
Once you’ve collected your discs, you’ll need a jukebox to play them. Just craft one using eight wooden planks and a diamond, place it down, and right-click with your music disc to start the show. I always recommend building a nice listening room – it really adds to the experience!
Remember, these discs aren’t just collectibles – they’re part of what makes Minecraft such a unique experience. Whether you’re showing off your collection to friends or creating the perfect ambiance for your base, each disc adds its own special touch to the game’s atmosphere.
