Apple issues Watch OS update 1.0.1

AppleWatchFor those who have purchased an Apple Watch, Apple has released the first OS update to fix a few outstanding bugs in the device’s initial release. The update, which is about 51MB in size, brings fixes for Siri, as well as improvements for measuring several activities, including standing time, calories for cycling and rowing workouts, and distances for walks and runs.

In addition to these fixes, the update adds support for several new languages, including Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Russian. So far there has been no mention of changes that will affect battery life.

Installing this update will require you have 50% charge in your watch, be in Bluetooth range of your iPhone (within 20-30 feet) and have the watch attached to its charger:

  1. Go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone
  2. Tap the MyWatch tab
  3. Choose General > Software Update
  4. Tap “Download and Install” when the update appears

When it installs, the watch will display an Apple symbol with a revolving indicator, showing that it is working on the installation. The update may take 10-15 minutes to install, but once finished, the watch will reboot normally and should operate as expected.
